This summer we were pleased to welcome Nora Berger and Ann-Katrin Schlögel, both from Stuttgart in Germany, on a marketing internship programme. The students spent four weeks with us, gaining experience and helping with a range of marketing work, including research, article writing, data cleansing and poster design.
Nora and Ann-Katrin are apprentices, and when at home in Germany they combine a three-year work placement with studying at their vocational school in Stuttgart. Nora is training to be a publishers’ assistant, and Ann-Katrin a marketing assistant.
The internship was arranged by Tellus in Plymouth, which facilitates opportunities for international students under the Erasmus+ European-funded work experience programme.
Nora commented: “Being able to do an internship in England gives me a unique opportunity not only to learn about a different life and work culture but also to improve my language skills. Marketing combines my personal interests: creativity, organisation and communication. You never stop learning because customers’ and clients’ tastes never stop changing and you need to optimize your strategies to their needs.”
During their stay the students stayed with host families in Plymouth, arranged by Tellus. They were also able to spend some time exploring Plymouth and the surrounding area, particularly visiting the coastline.
Ann-Katrin added: “With an internship you can broaden your horizons. During my four week stay in England I learned not only a lot about working life and everyday life, I also grew beyond myself. I am proud of managing the new tasks in another language very well.”
On the final day of their placement in the UK the students attended a presentation ceremony (see below), accompanied by Aldermans Managing Director, Karen Friendship.
“We are very supportive of apprenticeships and work experience here, as it’s also enriching for our staff to help and encourage those in the early stages of their career” Karen commented. “It’s been a pleasure to have Nora and Ann-Katrin with us, and we wish them well for the future.”
